- Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride (fractionated coconut oil): a light, non greasy oil that dissolves makeup and sunscreen.
- Stearic Acid, Cetyl Alcohol: give the balm its soft, solid texture.
- Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-100 Stearate: the emulsifier that turns the balm into a milk with water, so it rinses off.
- Tocopherol (vitamin E) in sunflower seed oil: an antioxidant that protects the oils in the balm.
- Parfum, Coumarin: fragrance, and a fragrance allergen listed by law.
- With dry hands, use the bamboo spatula to scoop out a small amount.
- Massage onto dry skin in gentle circles, including over makeup and sunscreen.
- Add a few drops of water and keep massaging as it turns milky.
- Rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry.
- Follow with the Cleansing Face Bar.
- Always start on dry skin; adding water too early stops the balm melting makeup.
- Keep the spatula clean and dry, and close the lid after use.
- Store in a cool, dry place away from sunlight.
- For eye makeup, keep your eyes closed and rinse well.
A balm to milk cleanser for makeup and sunscreen
Makeup and sunscreen are made to stay on your skin, so they come off most easily with something oil based. The Cleansing Face Balm is a solid cleansing balm that melts as you massage it over dry skin, loosening makeup, sunscreen and the day’s oil. Add a little water and it turns into a light milk that rinses off without leaving a greasy film.
What is in it
The balm is made mostly from fractionated coconut oil (caprylic/capric triglyceride), a light, non greasy oil derived from coconut. Stearic acid and cetyl alcohol give the balm its soft, solid texture, and an emulsifier, glyceryl stearate with PEG-100 stearate, is what turns it milky when you add water, so it rinses clean. Vitamin E protects the oils in the balm.
How to double cleanse
Double cleansing means cleansing twice: first with an oil based cleanser to dissolve makeup and sunscreen, then with a gentle wash to clean the skin itself.
- First cleanse: Cleansing Face Balm, on dry skin.
- Second cleanse: Cleansing Face Bar, on damp skin.
- Finish: Golden Face Oil in the morning, or Night Face Serum in the evening.
