Why blonde hair turns brassy
When hair is lightened, its natural pigment is broken down, and warm tones are the last to go. A toner in the salon softens that warmth to give your chosen shade. Toner fades with every wash, hot shower, swim and sunny day, and the warm, yellow tones underneath begin to show again. As a colourist, this is the question I hear most from blonde clients.
How a toning shampoo bar helps
Colourists tone down unwanted warmth using the shade opposite it on the colour wheel. Blue Vibes leaves a small amount of blue violet pigment (CI 77007) on the hair, which visually balances yellow and brassy tones, so blonde looks cooler and brighter. It works like a purple shampoo, in a solid bar. It does not lighten hair, and it does not replace a salon toner, but it helps you keep brassiness in check between appointments.
Care for lightened hair
Lightened hair can feel dry, so the bar also contains mango butter and shea butter for softness, panthenol (provitamin B5) to help hair hold on to moisture, hydrolysed wheat protein to help hair feel smoother, jojoba and hemp seed oil for the lengths, and BTMS, a conditioning ingredient made from rapeseed oil, to help with detangling.
Who it is for
Blonde, highlighted, balayage, lightened and grey or silver hair. If your hair is very pale or very porous, start with a short contact time, as it can pick up tone quickly.
Cleansers, in plain words
This bar cleans with sodium cocoyl isethionate (SCI), sodium lauryl sulfoacetate (SLSa) and cocamidopropyl betaine. It contains no SLS or SLES, and no soap. It contains wheat protein and fragrance; see the full list below.
